The Mission of the Montrose Soccer Club:

The Montrose Soccer Club is a not for profit organization devoted to the development of soccer in Montrose and surrounding areas. A volunteer board of directors are appointed by the club members and are responsible for club direction pursuant to the bylaws.
The goals of the Montrose Soccer Club are to raise the level of skills of the participants; promote a lasting love for the game; to promote sportsmanship among the players, parents and coaches, and to provide a opportunity of competitive play against other club teams.
The Montrose Soccer Club will work diligently with other community groups and entities to provide a safe playing environment and a complex that the entire area will be proud of.
The Montrose Soccer Club has adopted a Drug and Alcohol Free pledge that all the participants are required to accept and abide by.
All of our members are volunteers and are committed to provide a quality program that will promote health, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

History:

The club was started in 1996 by Paul Althaus from Montrose. Paul contacted a number of towns and they formed the Western Slope Soccer league (WSSL.) Eventually, Aspen/Vail took over the management of the the WSSL.

Paul was the first president of the Montrose Soccer Club. In 2001, Mike Benziger was elected to the top spot. Holly Tea took the helm in 2004 after serving as a Board member for a number of years. Finally, Gary Shellhorn was sworn in as the MSC president in the summer of 2007.
